About Ukrainian Persha Liga

The Ukrainian Persha Liga, also known as the Ukrainian First League, is the second tier of professional football in Ukraine, sitting directly below the Ukrainian Premier League. It is composed of 16 teams and functions as a feeder league for the top division.

The Persha Liga operates in a similar fashion to the Premier League, with each team playing 30 matches during the regular season, and the league running from August to May. The team with the most points at the end of the season is promoted to the Ukrainian Premier League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the third tier of Ukrainian football, the Druha Liga.

Some of the most successful and popular teams in the Persha Liga include FC Lviv, Obolon-Brovar Kyiv, Metalist 1925 Kharkiv, and Metalurh Zaporizhzhia, among others. The league features some talented players, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the top division and other European leagues.

In recent years, there have been efforts to reform the Ukrainian football system, with a particular focus on increasing the competitiveness of the Persha Liga and the Druha Liga, as well as improving the infrastructure and financial stability of clubs throughout the country.

Overall, the Ukrainian Persha Liga is an important component of the Ukrainian football system, providing opportunities for up-and-coming players and teams to compete at a high level and potentially earn promotion to the top division.
