About MLS

Major League Soccer (MLS) is a professional soccer league in North America comprising 29 teams from the United States and Canada. It is one of the fastest-growing professional soccer leagues in the world, with an average attendance of over 22,000 spectators per game in 2019. The league was founded in 1993, and the inaugural season took place in 1996.

MLS operates under a single-entity structure, which means that the league owns all of the teams and players. This structure is intended to ensure the long-term viability and stability of the league. However, each team is allowed to operate as a separate business entity and has its own local ownership group.

The league is divided into two conferences, the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference, with 15 and 14 teams respectively. The regular season runs from late February to early October, with each team playing 34 games. The top seven teams from each conference qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs, which culminate in the MLS Cup championship game.

MLS has attracted a number of high-profile players from around the world, including David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Wayne Rooney. The league has also seen significant growth in popularity and revenue in recent years, with expansion teams being added and new stadiums being built to accommodate growing fan bases.
