About English League Championship
The English Football League Championship, commonly referred to as the Championship, is the second-highest division in the English football league system, below the Premier League. The league was founded in 2004, replacing the old First Division, and it features 24 teams from across England and Wales.
The Championship season typically runs from August to May, with each team playing a total of 46 matches. The top two teams in the league at the end of the season are automatically promoted to the Premier League, while the teams that finish in third through sixth place compete in a playoff for the third and final promotion spot. The bottom three teams in the Championship are typically relegated to the third tier of English football, League One.
The Championship is widely regarded as one of the most competitive and exciting football leagues in the world. The league features a mix of former top-flight clubs looking to regain their former glory, as well as smaller clubs with ambitions to reach the Premier League for the first time. Some of the most well-known teams in the Championship include Leeds United, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest.
The Championship is also an important breeding ground for young talent, with many future stars of the Premier League beginning their careers in the second tier of English football. The league attracts a large and passionate fan base, with matches often played in front of sold-out crowds and generating significant media attention.
