About English Championship Rugby League
The English Championship Rugby League, also known as the Betfred Championship due to its sponsorship, is the second-tier professional rugby league competition in England, below the Super League. The league features 14 teams who play a regular season of 27 rounds, with each team playing each other once at home and once away. The top six teams at the end of the regular season advance to the playoffs, with the winner earning promotion to the Super League for the following season.
The Championship is regarded as a highly competitive and physical competition, with many teams featuring experienced players and up-and-coming talent. The league is known for its passionate fan base and close-knit community, with many teams representing historic rugby league towns and cities in the north of England.
Some notable teams that have competed in the Championship include the Toronto Wolfpack, who were the first non-European team to join the league and were known for their ambitious plans and high-profile signings, and the Featherstone Rovers, who have a rich history in English rugby league and are known for their passionate fan base and traditional style of play.
