About AFL

AFL stands for the Australian Football League, which is the highest level of professional Australian rules football in Australia. The sport is also commonly known as "footy" or "Aussie rules" and is played with an oval-shaped ball on a large oval field.

The AFL was formed in 1990 after a merger between the Australian Football League (which had been the top level of competition in Victoria) and the West Australian Football League. Today, the AFL consists of 18 teams from across Australia, and the season runs from late March to late September, with a Grand Final held in late September or early October to determine the champion.

The AFL is highly regarded for its fast-paced, physical style of play, and for the passionate support of its fans. The league has a unique set of rules that differ from other football codes, such as the use of hands to move the ball and the ability to take marks (catches) in the air.

The AFL has a rich history and tradition, with many iconic moments and legendary players throughout its existence. It is also an important part of the cultural fabric of Australia, and is widely regarded as one of the country's most popular and beloved sports.

Overall, the AFL is an exciting and dynamic sport that is highly regarded by fans and players alike, and plays an important role in the cultural and sporting landscape of Australia.
