Hershey Bears is Qualified for AHL (Play Offs )About AHL
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league that serves as the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). The league was founded in 1936 and currently consists of 31 teams, 28 of which are located in the United States and 3 in Canada. The league operates on a franchise system, with each team being independently owned and operated.
The AHL is considered the highest level of professional hockey below the NHL, and many of its players go on to play in the NHL. The league has a salary cap and also has rules regarding the number of veteran players (players with a certain amount of professional experience) that each team can have on its roster.
The AHL regular season runs from October to April, with each team playing 76 games. The top four teams in each division qualify for the Calder Cup playoffs, which is the AHL's championship tournament. The winner of the Calder Cup is considered the champion of the AHL.
Some notable NHL players who have played in the AHL include Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Patrick Roy, among many others.
